Why 1 inch matters: hail about the size of a quarter and up can crack or bruise asphalt shingles even when nothing looks wrong from the driveway. If your home was in the path of one of these storms and nobody has been on the roof, it’s worth a free look. Compare other cities →

“After severe hail damage, Homey & Allie took care of everything with our insurance company, above and beyond what we expected. Once the work started it went surprisingly quick and done very professionally. We had several walk throughs and every detail was taken care of. In the end we got a new roof and new paint for the entire house. A+ service and communication. Thanks again!”

Castle Rock local guide

What should Castle Rock homeowners know about their roofs?

How Castle Rock grew, where it’s growing next, and what that means for the roof over your head and for solar.

How did Castle Rock get started?

Castle Rock was founded in 1874, when it became the Douglas County seat. Homesteader Jeremiah Gould donated 120 acres for the town, and 77 lots were auctioned around the courthouse square. Settlers came hoping for gold, but rhyolite stone built the town; quarries ran through the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The town is named for the castle-shaped butte north of downtown. WPA workers built the star on top in 1936, starting a lighting tradition. Castle Rock is the most populous town (rather than city) in Colorado, with 73,158 residents in 2020, up 51.7% from 2010.

Which Castle Rock neighborhoods do you serve?

Castle Rock grew fast in the 2010s, so many roofs are on newer homes in master-planned areas, while historic downtown has some of the oldest houses in Douglas County.

What’s being built in Castle Rock?

Growth continues on both sides of I-25. Dawson Trails received a plan amendment in 2026 and includes about 750 acres of open space and nearly 25 miles of trails. In Crystal Valley Ranch, a 112-home, 21-acre plan went to Planning Commission on October 8, 2026, with Town Council review scheduled for November 17.

What does that mean for your roof?

At about 6,200 feet on the Palmer Divide, Castle Rock gets fast-building storms, hail, and strong UV. With so many homes built in the last 15 years, a lot of roofs are approaching their first replacement, often through a hail claim.

Neighborhoods along the foothills and in wooded areas may fall under Colorado’s Wildfire Resiliency Code, so we check before materials are ordered.

Thinking about solar in Castle Rock? The 30% federal residential solar tax credit (Section 25D) ended for systems installed after December 31, 2025, so a 2026 install has to pencil out on its own savings. That makes the roof underneath matter more, not less. Many newer Castle Rock homes have large, simple roof planes that suit solar. Check HOA rules first, and we’ll handle both. Panels are typically expected to stay up for decades, and pulling them off to re-roof later costs real money. If your shingles are older or hail-worn, the cheapest time to replace them is before the panels go on. Homey Roofing does solar, so we can roof and install in one project, with one crew responsible for every hole in the roof.

Permits

What the Town requires on a re-roof.

Castle Rock has its own re-roof rules. Here’s what applies to every roof replacement in town, and how we handle it.

  • A building permit is required. Only contractors licensed and registered with the Town can pull it. We handle the permit for you.
  • 100% tear-off, no overlays. Old shingles and underlayment come off down to the deck. Cheap layover bids won’t pass.
  • Mid-roof inspection. Required once the roof is fully dried in with at least five rows installed. The roof can’t be finished until it passes.
  • Final inspection. Permits expire if no inspection happens within 180 days, so we keep the job moving.
  • Wildfire code may apply. Depending on your lot’s fire-intensity rating, Colorado’s Wildfire Resiliency Code can affect re-roof requirements. It’s worth checking before materials are ordered.

Thinking about impact-resistant shingles? Class 4 shingles hold up better to hail, and some Colorado insurers offer a discount for them. Ask your agent, and we’ll price both options.

From Town of Castle Rock Building Division. These are the items to look for on your estimate, and what an adjuster's scope sometimes misses.

HOA rules in Castle Rock

Many Castle Rock subdivisions have HOA design review for roof material and color. Colorado law bars an HOA from requiring wood shakes or other flammable roofing and protects fire-hardened roofing materials, though HOAs can still set reasonable look-and-color rules (C.R.S. 38-33.3-106.5).

Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Castle Rock?

Yes. The Town of Castle Rock requires a building permit before a roof is replaced, and only contractors licensed and registered with the Town can pull one. We take care of the permit and schedule the inspections.

Can you just put new shingles over my old roof?

Not in Castle Rock. The Town requires a 100% tear-off down to the roof deck, and overlays aren’t allowed. Any bid that skips the tear-off won’t pass inspection.

What inspections will my roof go through?

A mid-roof inspection once the roof is fully dried in with at least five rows of shingles installed, and a final inspection when it’s done. The roof can’t be finished until the mid-roof inspection passes.

How often does Castle Rock get hail?

NOAA’s Storm Events Database lists 70 hail reports within 10 miles of downtown Castle Rock from April 2016 through June 2026, on 35 separate days. The biggest in that radius was 2.5-inch hail logged about 3 miles north of Castle Rock (2.7 miles from downtown) on June 8, 2019. Plenty of storms are never reported, so the real number is higher.

My HOA has rules about roofs. Can you help?

Yes. Many Castle Rock neighborhoods require architectural approval before you change roof material or color. Send us your HOA’s guidelines and we’ll help you choose an approved product and pull together what you need to submit.

Will insurance cover my Castle Rock roof?

If hail or wind damaged it, your homeowner’s policy may cover the replacement, minus your deductible. Coverage depends on your policy. We inspect for free and tell you honestly whether it’s worth filing.

How do I get an inspection on the calendar?

Book online, call, or text (720) 948-5726. We’ll text to confirm a time. Our office is in Lone Tree, about 20 minutes up I-25.

Why is Castle Rock called Castle Rock?

It’s named for the castle-shaped butte just north of downtown. WPA workers built the star on top in 1936.

Do you work in Crystal Valley Ranch, The Meadows and Terrain?

Yes, and across the rest of Castle Rock.

Besides roofing, do you do gutters, siding, windows and paint in Castle Rock?

Yes. We replace gutters, repair and replace siding, handle hail-damaged windows, screens and wraps, and do exterior painting in Castle Rock, usually on the same job and the same insurance claim as the roof, so one team is responsible for the whole outside.

Can one hail claim in Castle Rock cover the roof, gutters and paint?

Often, when the storm damaged them. Gutters, downspouts, screens, siding and paint are commonly part of a hail claim. We photograph every elevation so they’re on the record; your insurer decides what’s covered, and you pay your deductible.

My Castle Rock home was built in the 2000s. What should I have checked?

On a 2000s home we look closely at the roof’s age and layers, the decking, the flashing where roofs meet walls, gutter size and fascia, and any older siding or paint. Builder-grade roofs and gutters from that era are often due after a few hail seasons. The free inspection covers all of it, with photos.
