Hail-damaged windows, screens and wraps.Fixed with the rest of the outside.

Most hail damage to windows isn’t broken glass. It’s torn screens, dented aluminum wraps, cracked vinyl frames and failed seals. We find it, photograph it, and replace what’s needed along with the roof, siding and paint.

What hail actually does to windows

Look past the glass.

After a Front Range hailstorm, the window damage that ends up on a claim is usually the small parts: screens torn or dented, aluminum wraps (the metal capping around trim and sills) dented, vinyl frames and sashes cracked, and sometimes cracked glass or insulated units whose seals fail and fog up.

Those parts are easy to miss on a quick walk-around and easy to forget until the roof is done. We check every window on every elevation during the free inspection, the same visit we look at the roof, gutters and siding.

Windows also connect to the rest of the exterior. New siding means new window flashing, and a window replacement often means new wraps and paint on the trim. Doing it as one job keeps those edges watertight.

Signs you need it

What to look for from the ground.

You don’t need a ladder. If you see any of these, a free inspection will tell you what it means.

Torn or dented screens

The most common hail damage. Screens are small individually but add up across a house.

Dented aluminum wraps

Dents in the metal capping on trim and sills. Like gutters, it’s soft metal that shows hail size and direction.

Cracked vinyl frames or sashes

Older vinyl gets brittle in cold and sun. Look closely at sills and corners.

Cracked or chipped glass

Even a small crack in an insulated unit can let the seal fail over time.

Fog between the panes

Condensation inside a double-pane unit means the seal has failed, from hail or simply age.

Drafts, sticking and leaks

Air or water getting in around the frame often points to flashing or caulk failure, not the glass.

Options

Repair, reglaze or replace.

No brand pitch. These are the trade-offs we walk you through at the inspection.

Screen replacement

New screens made to size for each window. Often the whole job after a moderate storm.

Wrap repair or replacement

Re-wrapping trim and sills in aluminum, color-matched to the house.

Glass or insulated unit replacement

When the frame is sound but the glass is cracked or the seal has failed, replacing just the unit can work.

Retrofit (insert) windows

A new window installed into the existing frame. Less disruption to siding and interior trim.

Full-frame replacement

The whole window comes out to the rough opening. Best when frames are damaged or rotted, or when siding is coming off anyway.

Energy and egress

We’ll talk through glass packages and frame material, and egress size for basement bedrooms, which building codes regulate.

Colorado hail & insurance

Hail, insurance and windows in Colorado

Small items, real money. Screens, wraps and glass are commonly part of a hail claim, and because they’re small, they get left off. We photograph each damaged window and list it by elevation so nothing is lost between the inspection and the estimate.

Matching sets. If one window in a matched set is damaged and the product is discontinued, a replacement may not match its neighbors. How that’s handled depends on your policy; your insurer decides. We give them the facts.

Order of work. On a full exterior claim, windows are coordinated with siding and paint, so wraps and trim are installed and painted once.

Not sure it’s worth a claim? Use our should I file a claim checklist, and read whether a claim raises your premium.

Tip: Before anyone touches damaged screens, wraps or glass, take your own dated photos of each one, from a few feet away and up close. Keep them with your claim paperwork.

We’re roofers, not public adjusters.Colorado law limits what a roofer can do on your claim (C.R.S. 6-22-105). We inspect, document, meet your adjuster as your contractor, and send supplements with evidence. Your insurer decides coverage.

What homeowners complain about

The window complaints we hear most.

We read local reviews, Reddit threads and news stories about Front Range contractors. These complaints came up again and again. Here’s how we handle each one.

“Half the damage never made it onto the insurance estimate.”

How we handle it

We photograph every elevation in CompanyCam, and you get a copy of every photo we send your insurer. Your insurer decides coverage; we make sure they see the documented damage.

“They knocked, said they could see damage from the street, and wanted a signature that night.”

How we handle it

We don’t ask you to sign anything at the inspection. You get a dated photo report either way, and if there’s no damage worth a claim, we tell you.

“The roofer blamed the gutter guy, and the gutter guy blamed the roofer.”

How we handle it

Roof, gutters, siding, windows and paint can all run through one Homey contract, so the edges where trades meet get done once, by people talking to each other.

Retrofit or full-frame install with flashing tied into the siding and weather barrier.

Trim, wraps and paint

New wraps and trim, painted to match when needed.

Walkthrough and warranty

We check operation and seals with you. Workmanship warranty in writing; product warranty from the manufacturer.

What affects the price

What changes a windows quote.

We don’t post made-up price ranges. You get a written, line-item price after a free inspection. Retail jobs can be financed through Slice, if approved.

  • Repair (screens, wraps, glass) vs. full window replacement
  • Number, size and shape of windows; specialty shapes cost more
  • Retrofit vs. full-frame installation
  • Frame material and glass package
  • Trim, wrap, siding and paint work around the window
  • Whether it’s part of a hail claim

Paying with insurance? You usually pay your deductible plus any upgrades you choose. See the cost guide.

Codes, permits & HOAs

Local rules we check before we order.

Rules change by city and by neighborhood. These come up most on windows jobs.

  • Window replacement may need a building permit, depending on your city and whether the opening changes size. We check with your building department and pull any permit required.
  • HOAs often regulate window color, grids and trim. See our HOA approval guide.
  • In pre-1978 homes, removing painted window trim can disturb lead paint; federal rules require lead-safe practices by a certified firm (EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting rule).

Sources linked; checked Oct 29, 2026. Codes change, and we confirm with your building department on every job.

Windows FAQ

What homeowners ask us.

Text a photo to (720) 948-5726 and we’ll tell you what we see.

Does homeowners insurance cover hail-damaged windows?

Hail damage to windows, screens and wraps is commonly part of a covered hail claim, minus your deductible, but every policy is different. We photograph each damaged window; your insurer decides coverage.

Do torn window screens mean my roof was hit?

Often. Screens, wraps, gutters and vents are soft and show hail first. Damaged screens are a good reason to get the roof inspected.

Can you replace just the glass?

Often, yes. If the frame is sound and only the glass is cracked or the seal has failed, replacing the insulated glass unit can be enough.

What is a window wrap?

The aluminum capping bent around window trim and sills to protect the wood. Hail dents it easily, and it can be replaced and color-matched.

Retrofit or full-frame replacement?

Retrofit is faster and less disruptive. Full-frame is better when frames are damaged or rotted, or when the siding is coming off anyway.

How long does window replacement take?

Ordering custom windows usually takes longer than installing them. Most homes are installed in a day or two once the windows arrive. We give you a schedule up front.

How much do replacement windows cost?

It depends on the number, size, type and installation method. We give you a written, line-item price after a free inspection. Retail jobs can be financed through Slice, if approved.
