Exterior painting that holds up to Colorado sun.Prep first, Sherwin-Williams paint, one crew.
Altitude sun, freeze-thaw and hail are hard on paint. Angel, our master painter, preps it right and uses Sherwin-Williams products, and we coordinate paint with the roof, gutters and siding so the edges are finished together.

Why exterior paint fails here
Most paint failures are prep failures.
Strong high-altitude sun breaks paint down, especially on south and west walls. Big daily temperature swings and freeze-thaw open caulk joints and let water behind the paint. Hail chips painted surfaces, and sprinklers soak the bottom courses of siding all summer.
Good paint can’t fix a bad surface. That’s why prep is most of the job: washing, scraping and sanding loose paint, fixing soft trim and failed caulk, and priming bare or chalky surfaces before any finish coat goes on.
Fascia, soffit and trim sit right where the roof and gutters meet the house. Painting them right after a roof or gutter job means the whole edge is finished together, instead of a new roof sitting over tired, peeling trim.
Signs you need it
What to look for from the ground.
You don’t need a ladder. If you see any of these, a free inspection will tell you what it means.
Peeling and flaking
Usually moisture or poor adhesion. Find the cause before repainting, or it comes back.
Chalking and fading
A powdery film on the sunny sides. It needs cleaning and the right primer.
Cracked caulk and open joints
Gaps at trim, corners and windows let water behind the paint.
Hail chips and dents
Chipped paint on siding, trim, fences and garage doors after a storm.
Soft or rotted trim
Wood that dents under a fingernail needs repair before paint.
Stains from roof or gutter leaks
Streaks under the eaves often mean a gutter or flashing problem. We fix that first.
Prep and products
How Angel paints a house.
No brand pitch. These are the trade-offs we walk you through at the inspection.
Wash and dry
Dirt, chalk and mildew off; surfaces dry before anything else.
Scrape, sand, feather
Loose paint removed and edges feathered so the new coat lies flat.
Repair and caulk
Soft trim replaced, holes filled, joints re-caulked with a paintable sealant.
Prime what needs it
Bare wood, repairs and chalky or stained areas get a primer matched to the surface, including a bonding primer such as Sherwin-Williams Peel Bond where adhesion is a problem, applied per the label.
Sherwin-Williams finish coats
Exterior products chosen for the surface and exposure, applied within the maker’s temperature range.
Colors and HOA
We help you pick colors and prepare the HOA submittal if your neighborhood requires approval.
Colorado hail & insurance
Hail, insurance and paint in Colorado
Paint is often part of a hail claim. Hail chips paint on siding, trim, fences and garage doors, and repairs to siding, gutters or wraps can leave patches that need paint to blend. We document painted surfaces with the rest of the exterior.
Full exterior paint happens. Homey customers have shared how their claims ended up including full exterior paint with the roof and gutters. One claim went from $2,281 to $58,171 once the gutters, paint and solar reset were documented (shared with permission). Your insurer decides coverage; we document.
Timing. Exterior paint needs dry weather within the paint maker’s temperature range. In the colder months we’ll tell you honestly to wait for spring rather than paint in conditions that won’t hold up.

We’re roofers, not public adjusters.Colorado law limits what a roofer can do on your claim (C.R.S. 6-22-105). We inspect, document, meet your adjuster as your contractor, and send supplements with evidence. Your insurer decides coverage.
What homeowners complain about
The painting complaints we hear most.
We read local reviews, Reddit threads and news stories about Front Range contractors. These complaints came up again and again. Here’s how we handle each one.
“The roofer blamed the gutter guy, and the gutter guy blamed the roofer.”
How we handle it
Roof, gutters, siding, windows and paint can all run through one Homey contract, so the edges where trades meet get done once, by people talking to each other.
“Half the damage never made it onto the insurance estimate.”
How we handle it
We photograph every elevation in CompanyCam, and you get a copy of every photo we send your insurer. Your insurer decides coverage; we make sure they see the documented damage.
“Their lifetime warranty disappeared with the company.”
How we handle it
Every Homey job carries a 2-year workmanship warranty in writing, transferable once if you sell, from a company that’s been local since 2012. Material warranties come from the manufacturer.
Complaints paraphrased from public Colorado homeowner reviews, Reddit (r/Denver, r/ColoradoSprings, r/Roofing) and local news, 2025–2026.

Codes, permits & HOAs
Local rules we check before we order.
Rules change by city and by neighborhood. These come up most on exterior painting jobs.
- Pre-1978 homes: older paint may contain lead. Under the EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting rule, firms paid to disturb painted surfaces in those homes must be certified and use lead-safe practices. Tell us your home’s build year when you book.
- HOAs commonly require color approval before a repaint. In Highlands Ranch that’s through HRCA Covenants & Improvements; see our HOA approval guide.
- Historic districts, such as Olde Town Arvada and downtown Littleton, may review exterior changes. We check before we order paint.

Exterior painting FAQ
What homeowners ask us.
Text a photo to (720) 948-5726 and we’ll tell you what we see.
How often should a house be painted in Colorado?
It depends on the siding, the sun exposure and the last paint job. South and west walls fade and chalk first. Repaint when caulk is cracking and paint is chalking or peeling, before bare wood is exposed.
Does insurance cover exterior paint after hail?
Paint damaged by hail, or paint needed to blend covered siding or trim repairs, is commonly part of a hail claim, but every policy is different. We document it; your insurer decides coverage.
What paint do you use?
Sherwin-Williams exterior products, chosen for the surface and exposure, with primers matched to the surface, including a bonding primer where adhesion is a problem.
Who does the painting?
Angel, our master painter, and his crew, coordinated by Homey alongside your roof, gutters and siding.
Can you paint in winter?
Exterior paint needs dry weather within the paint maker’s temperature range. In the cold months we’ll usually schedule for spring instead of risking a finish that won’t hold.
My house was built before 1978. Does that matter?
Yes. Older paint may contain lead, and federal rules require lead-safe work practices by a certified firm when painted surfaces are disturbed. Tell us the build year when you book.
How much does exterior painting cost?
It depends on size, stories, condition and prep, trim and the number of colors. We give you a written, line-item price after a free estimate. Retail jobs can be financed through Slice, if approved.
